Fangs of the Father are two legendary Daggers, usable only by Rogues. They represent the latest legendary item, added in World of Warcraft Patch 4.3. These powerful Rogue weapons join Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros, Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker, Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian, the Warglaives of Azzinoth (Main Hand/Off Hand), Thori'dal, the Stars' Fury, Val'anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings, Shadowmourne and Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest in the collection of truly legendary weapons, made available to players over the years. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know to obtain the Fangs ofthe Father, and will also provide you with relevant information regarding the weapons themselves. The quest line is only available to level 85 Rogues. 1. Preliminary Information↑topThe Fangs of the Father (Golad, Twilight of Aspects and Tiriosh, Nightmare of Ages) are two legendary daggers, granted as a reward to players who complete the relevant quest line. While the daggers themselves do not have a class restriction, the quest line is only available to Rogues. A few important notes regarding the daggers:
2. The Quest Chain↑topThe quest chain for obtaining the Fangs of the Father is comprised of 13 quests. Most of the quests can (and, due to phasing, must) be completed single-handedly by the Rogue. In addition to this, a few quests will require players to venture into the Dragon Soul raid and complete some very basic tasks, with the aid of a raid group. Compared to the two most recent legendary weapons, Shadowmourne and Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest, obtaining the Fangs of the Father puts a lot less emphasis on raid content. Players who embark on this quest line will not only obtain a pair of extremely powerful daggers, but will also be privileged to experience a very compelling story-line that touches on the future of the Black Dragonflight. Please note that none of the parts that involve the Dragon Soul raid instance can be completed in LFR. Only the standard 10 and 25-man difficulties (normal and heroic) can be used for this purpose. 2.1. SummaryThe quest chain is comprised of the following quests:
* quests that require the help of a raid group. All other quests can be complete solo. The following items will be required for the completion of the quest chain:
As you progress through the quest line, you will obtain the following two pairs of daggers before obtaining the legendary ones:
2.2. The QuestsIn this section, we will look at each one of the quests in the chain, detailing what they involve. Currently, there appears to be no pre-requisite to being offered the first quest in the chain, aside from being a level 85 Rogue. 2.2.1. Proving Your WorthThe first quest, Proving Your Worth, is offered by Lord Afrasastrasz in the Dragon Soul raid instance. The quest objective is simple: pick pocket Hagara the Stormbinder, the 4th boss of the instance. There really is not much to say about this quest, as it is extremely straightforward. A few notes, though:
Note that your raid can simply have additional Rogues (such as alts) join the raid after Yor'sahj and Zon'ozz have been killed, pick-pocket Hagara and then leave the raid. They will not get saved to the raid lockout, and they will be able to progress on the quest chain (and obtain the first version of the daggers). Pick pocketing Hagara will reward players with a quest item, Cryptomancer's Decoder Ring. Returning this item to Lord Afrasastrasz will provide you with the next quest in the chain: A Hidden Message. 2.2.2. A Hidden MessageThis quest has two parts. The first requires you to travel to your faction's main capital city (Stormwind for Alliance and Orgrimmar for Horde) and talk to a specific Ethereal, in order to charge the Decoder Ring that you obtained in the previous quest. Alliance players will have to speak with Thaumaturge Rafir, while Horde players must seek out Thaumaturge Altha. You will have to pay 10,000 to get them to charge the ring. Once the amount of gold has been payed, it will take 12 hours for the ring, now Charging Decoder Ring to become a Charged Decoder Ring. Note that this is not in-game (or /played) time, but rather real life time, meaning that you can comfortably do this before going to sleep, and come back 12 hours later to a fully charged ring. The second part of the quest requires you to travel to Corastrasza, at the Vermillion Redoubt, in Twilight Highlands, where the only black dragon egg not yet corrupted by Deathwing's madness has been stolen from the Red Dragonflight. You must use your Charged Decoder Ring to decrypt a message. Once this is done, Corastrasza learns the meaning of the message: the rogues of Ravenholdt are responsible for stealing the egg. She will offer you the next quest in the chain, To Ravenholdt. 2.2.3. To RavenholdtThis is where the quest line takes a much more involved and interesting turn. You will have to use your Rogue skills ( Stealth, Sap and Distract) to sneak into Ravenholdt Manor and find the stolen black dragon egg. You will be flown to Ravenholdt by Mostrasz. There, your character will gain a "stealth radius" around him/her. Essentially, there will be a red circle, spamming around 15 yards around your character. While stealthed, if any enemy enters this circle, they will detect your presence. Ravenholdt Manor is heavily guarded, and Mostrasz informs you that you must not be detected by any guards while making your way in. If you are detected, he will summon you back to your starting location, and you must begin again. You can and should make ample use of Sap: sapped enemies will not detect you if you pass close to them. Additionally, you can use Distract to give yourself a bit more room to maneuver. You cannot enter the manor from the front, and you will have to travel to the right, and around the back of the house. Here, you will find a rope on the ground, which you can use to climb up to the roof. On the roof, you will see an open window, leading into the tower of the manor. Once inside, your goal is to make it down to the basement of the house. To do this, you must walk down the stairs from the tower and jump over the wooden railing. There is a mob patrolling under you, though, so make sure that they are at the end of their patrolling path when you do jump. When you make it into the basement, you will discover the hatched black dragon egg, and you will immediately be greeted with a cut scene. Following the cut scene, you will be able to turn To Ravenholdt in to Wrathion. He will give you the next quest in the chain, Our Man in Gilneas. 2.2.4. Our Man in GilneasOur Man in Gilneas is mostly a simple travelling quest. You must go to the Ruins of Gilneas and talk to Zazzo Twinklefingers. He can be found just north of the bridge that leads into Gilneas City, in a small wooden shed. He will offer you the next quest in the chain, Assassinate Creed. 2.2.5. Assassinate CreedDuring Assassinate Creed you will, once again, have to make use of your Rogue skills in order to avoid detection by a large number of guards. Your goal is to make it into the center of the Military District in Gilneas City and slay Lord Hiram Creed. The way to him, however, is guarded by many packs of mobs. As with To Ravenholdt, you will have to pay great attention not to have any unsapped enemy in the area around you, indicated by the red circle. Some parts may look daunting at first, but in most cases this simply means that you need to wait for a patrol to reach a certain position before you can continue. If you fail, you will simply be teleported back to Zazzo Twinklefingers and you will have to start over again. Lord Hiram Creed has 1.8 million health and summons no adds. He is stunnable and interruptible. Theoretically, he has two phases, but looking at the fight as a single phase encounter is much simpler. He has the following abilities:
The fight against Lord Hiram Creed is not difficult, and it can be performed as any of the tree Rogue specialisations, although Combat may prove to make the fight easier than Assassination or Subtlety. We will not provide you with a detailed strategy, as this is unnecessary. We will give you a few tips, however:
Overall, as long as you are consistently avoiding the void zones and breath attacks, as well as interrupting Blackhowl's Will, you should have no problem whatsoever. After killing Lord Hiram Creed, you must return the quest to Zazzo Twinklefingers. He will give you a follow-up quest, The Deed is Done. 2.2.6. The Deed is DoneThe Deed is Done is a simple traveling quest. Return to Wrathion at Ravenholdt Manor and he will reward you with the first (item level 397) version of the Fangs of the Father, Fear and Vengeance. Wrathion willl offer you the next quest in the chain, Cluster Clutch. 2.2.7. Cluster ClutchThis is a very straightforward collecting quest. It requires you to gather 333 Shadowy Gems. These gems are contained within Elementium Gem Clusters, items that drop from bosses in the Dragon Soul raid, provided that there is someone on this stage of the quest when the boss is defeated. There is no exact or definitive information regarding the drop rate of the Gem Clusters, but currently, this information seems the most accurate:
Based on this information, it would take roughly 7 full clears for a 10-man raid to complete this quest, and roughly 3 full clears for a 25-man raid. Once you have acquired all 333 Shadow Gems, you must turn the quest in to Wrathion, who will offer you Our Man in Karazhan. 2.2.8. Our Man in KarazhanOur Man in Karazhan is a simple traveling quest that has you find Zazzo Twinklefingers outside of Karazhan. In similar fashion to Assassinate Creed, he will offer you a quest to kill a powerful elite mob, Blood of the Betrayer. 2.2.9. Blood of the BetrayerThe Blood of the Betrayer quest requires you to employ the same sneaking and stealthing techniques previously used in Assassinate Creed, in order to reach and defeat an elite mob called Nalice, in the cellars under Karazhan. Sneaking around is a bit more difficult here than on the previous quest, and you may fail repeatedly. However, with proper use of Sap and Distract as well as careful observation of mob patrol patterns, it is perfectly doable. Nalice has 3.1M health and, despite having a high number of abilities in her arsenal, she is not more complicated or difficult to defeat than Lord Hiram Creed. As with Creed, she is susceptible to interrupts, stuns and pretty much every other ability in your toolbox. We will present to you only those things which are of actual importance during the encounter:
As with Lord Hiram Creed, you should make use of all the survival abilities you have, and of course deal as much damage as possible to Nalice. After killing Nalice, return to Zazzo Twinklefingers. He will give you the next quest in the chain, Victory in the Depths. 2.2.10. Victory in the DepthsVictory in the Depths is another traveling quest. You must turn it in to Wrathion, inside Ravenholdt Manor, who will reward you with the second (item level 406) version of the Fangs of the Father, The Sleeper and The Dreamer. Wrathion will give you the next quest in the chain, Sharpening Your Fangs. 2.2.11. Sharpening Your FangsSharpening Your Fangs is yet another straightforward collecting quest. You are required to gather 60 Elementium Gem Clusters. As you know, these drop from bosses within the Dragon Soul raid. Keep in mind that a Rogue currently collecting Elementium Gem Clusters will prevent another Rogue, on an earlier part of the chain (Cluster Clutch), from progressing at all. This appears to be a deliberate choice by Blizzard, meant to keep the number of legendary daggers relatively low. Once you have collected all 60 Clusters, return to Wrathion in order to receive the final quest in the chain: Patricide. 2.2.12. PatricidePatricide is the final quest in the Fangs of the Father quest-line. The quest requires you to loot a quest item, Fragment of Deathwing's Jaw from Deathwing, after the Madness of Deathwing encounter. We believe this quest to not be completely developed, yet, on the PTR. This is because, by comparison, the item that needed to be looted from Ragnaros for the Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest quest chain altered the mechanics of the encounter and presented a challenge, while this does not appear to do so. Returning to Wrathion with the quest item will finally reward you with the Fangs of the Father, Golad, Twilight of Aspects and Tiriosh, Nightmare of Ages, as well as the Fangs of the Father Feat of Strength. We imagine there will be an associated Guild Achievement, although this is not present yet on the PTR. 3. Final Considerations↑topThis concludes the Fangs of the Father legendary quest guide. We hope you have enjoyed this walkthrough and, of course, the actual quest chain. |
