Macros and addons are an integral part of a raider's arsenal as they can make it easier to perform a variety of tasks, improving your overall game experience. Below, we present macros and addons that can be useful to an Unholy Death Knight (WoW 4.3). On the left side, you will find links to the other parts of the guide.

1. Macros↑top

1.1. Generic Macros for Death Knights

1.1.1. Raise Ally

  • #showtooltip Raise Ally
  • /cast [target=mouseover,help][target=target]Raise Ally

This macro casts Raise Ally Icon Raise Ally on your mouseover target, if they are a friendly player. Otherwise, it casts Raise Ally on your current target.

1.2. Specific Macros for Unholy Death Knights

  • #showtooltip Death Coil
  • /cast [mod:ctrl,@pet][]Death Coil

This macro is useful for when you need to heal your ghoul (as you know, Death Coil Icon Death Coil cast on your ghoul heals it). If you hold down Ctrl when using this macro, Death Coil will heal your pet (regardless of what you have targeted). Otherwise, it will simply damage the target.

1.3. Generic Addons for Death Knights

1.3.1. ElvUI

Here, at Tauri Veins, we use ElvUI for all our characters. This addon is a complete replacement of the default User Interface. It comes with almost everything you need to perform properly: action bars, cooldown timers, proc display, etc.

We strongly recommend you to get this addon.

1.3.2. Boss Mods: Deadly Boss Mods or Bigwigs

Boss mods are addons that warn you about boss abilities and give you live advice on how to handle some mechanics. We strongly recommend you to get one such addon. At Tauri Veins, we mostly use Deadly Boss Mods, the most popular boss mod. A good alternative is Big Wigs.

1.3.3. Parrot or Mik's Scrolling Battle Text

Parrot and Mik's Scrolling Battle Text are highly customisable addons for displaying floating battle text while in combat (incoming heals, damage of your spells, etc.). They both work very well by default.

1.3.4. Power Auras Classic

Power Auras Classic is an extremely useful addon that allows you to have visual effects on your screen, helping you track your buffs, debuffs and cooldowns. It is highly customisable and it can make it much, much easier to keep track of your procs and play your spec more proficiently.

1.3.5. Recount

Recount is a well known addon that most people use for displaying current DPS or HPS (Healing Per Second). We advise you to also use it for checking what you take damage from and if the share of damage/healing you do with each of your abilities is similar to that of other players of your class.

1.3.6. Magic Runes

Magic Runes is a useful and customisable addon that allows you to better track the cooldown and state of your runes. While having this addon is not mandatory in order to perform well as a Death Knight, we feel that it can be very helpful, either as a replacement or an addition to the default Blizzard interface.

1.3.7. Omen Threat Meter

Omen Threat Meter is the most popular addon for displaying the current threat levels on your target. We recommend you to use it to avoid taking aggro when the tank is still building up threat on an enemy.

1.3.8. Grid and GridClickSets (Optional)

ElvUI comes with decent raid frames. The only real reason for using Grid and GridClickSets is if you want to be able to mouseover dead raid or party members in order to resurrect them with Raise Ally Icon Raise Ally. If you choose to go with Grid, then you might want to also use GridStatusRaidDebuff.

1.4. Specific Addons for Unholy Death Knights

1.4.1. CLC DK

CLC DK is a useful addon that allows you to track your resources. It also provides you with suggestions as to which ability to use next, based on your DPS priority. We advise you to use this add-on as a guideline, and not simply follow it blindly.
